What it is:
The X-panel is a patent pending mounting technique for
solar panels in large solar farms. Instead of installing the framed panels vertically or horizontally, they are mounted in an offset position. This solution considerably improves the solar panel‘s self-cleaning properties as well as provides for much better array designs.
Plant engineers can now choose to lower the angle of inclination for the panels and to reduce the distance between module rows resulting in more available capacity in a given area.
State of play:
Several X-panel solar farms have been built so far in Germany and in UK. The patent for this geometry is pending in the European Union, the US, Japan and China.
